INVEST MORE ON ANIMAL INDUSTRY – UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR TASK NIGERIANS

A Professor from Animals Science Department, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria has ask Nigerians to invest more on animal production industry in order to boost the nation’s meat and milk production.


Prof. Danjuma Zaharaddin disclosed this during a Professorial inaugural lecture series with a topic : Poverty and Animal Agriculture: Unlocking The Pathways to Agric Enterprenuership delivered at assembly Hall, Main Campus, Samaru Zaria.


The university don also ask Nigerians to stop consuming animal skin popularly know as Ganda or Ponmo.

Prof. Danjuma emphasized that animal skin causes cancer disease to human body.


He decried that, the trend is killing leather industry in the country.


He added that, there is need for Nigerians to invest alot in Animal industry like Milk production, Meat production, Fish farming, Grasshopper farming, etc.


In his speech, the Vice Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria said, Nigerian cows produce only about 2 to 4 litres of milk per day per cow while in developed countries like the United Kingdom and United States, a cow produce an average of between 30 to 60 litres per day per cow.


He urge the federal government to provide enough lands in-order to stop farmers harder crisis.
